This number will grow as GM expands its charging infrastructure through various collaborations. NACS DC adapters will be available to U.S. customers first, followed by Canadian availability later this year.
Wade Sheffer, vice president of, said, “GM’s ongoing efforts to help accelerate the expansion of public charging infrastructure is an integral part of our commitment to an all-electric future.”
“Enabling access to even more publicly available fast chargers represents yet another way GM is focused on further improving the customer experience and making the transition to electric more seamless.”
This month, General Motors expanded its partnership with EVgo Inc. to install 400 fast-charging stalls at key locations in major U.S. metropolitan areas.
Apart from this, today, Unifor reached a tentative collective agreement with General Motors for more than 1,300 of its members at the company's CAMI Assembly and Battery Assembly facilities in Ingersoll, Ontario.

Owners of select Ford Motor Company electric vehicles will soon be able to take part in karaoke battles inside their EVs, with the auto giant adding a key feature that has been a staple in Tesla Inc electric vehicles for several years.
What Happened: Ford announced that Stingray Karaoke will soon be available to owners of the F-150 Lightning electric pickup truck.
The karaoke feature will be available from the in-vehicle screen when the vehicles are parked, driving or even charging. Lyrics appear on the in-vehicle screen when the vehicle is parked with a different feature available to passengers when the vehicle is in motion.
"Creating joy inside the vehicle by delivering amazing experiences is a huge part of our team's job at Ford. Now, for the first time karaoke will be available to Ford owners," the company said.
After an initial rollout of the F-150 Lightning vehicles, the karaoke feature will be added to the Mustang Mach-E, followed by other Ford and Lincoln vehicles.
Ford said there is a wide mix of songs and genres available covering Rock, Country, Pop, R&B, Latin, K&J Pop and family-friendly hits. The new karaoke feature covers 38 languages.
Karaoke will be available via a Ford software update to eligible F-150 Lightning owners in the U.S., Canada, Mexico and Europe, with additional rollouts to follow.

Why It's Important: While a vehicle having karaoke is not likely to be the only reason a consumer buys a particular electric vehicle, the new feature adds to Ford's focus on software and electric vehicles.
The karaoke rollout also adds a feature that Tesla first launched in 2019 and has made standard in several of its models.
Having karaoke available while parked and charging could be a great way to pass time for vehicle owners. The feature that allows passengers to still take part in karaoke via an app, QR code and the users' smartphone also allows the experience to continue without distracting the driver.
Tesla has often used its karaoke feature as a key selling point in certain regions around the world, including Asia. Ford could do something similar to help with international sales as competition in the electric vehicle space intensifies.

Customers will also be able locate and use the Tesla Superchargers through the same application.
The addition of the Tesla's charging network will increase access to more than 231,800 public chargers in North America, it added.
"Enabling access to even more publicly available fast chargers represents yet another way GM is focused on further improving the customer experience and making the transition to electric more seamless," Vice President of GM Energy Wade Sheffer said.
The adapters will first be made available to customers in the U.S., followed by availability for Canadian customers later this year.

Sharp has revealed an innovative electric vehicle prototype, the LDK+, developed in collaboration with its parent company Foxconn . The announcement was made on Tuesday during Sharp Tech-Day in Tokyo.
What Happened: The LDK+ concept car integrates the functionality of a traditional vehicle with a room-like interior, aiming to provide a new style of mobility. Sharp’s Chief Technical Officer, Mototaka Taneya, emphasized the growing importance of cars as personal spaces, especially with the advent of autonomous driving technology, Nikkei Asia reported on Wednesday.
Sharp’s design allows the vehicle’s interior to be used effectively even when parked, transforming it into a personal space for work or leisure. Features include a rotatable rear seat, a Sharp LCD display, and windows that can turn opaque for privacy. The car also uses AI to adjust air conditioning and lighting based on user preferences.
The LDK+ is built on an EV platform developed by Foxconn, which has been focusing on the EV market. Foxconn’s Chief Strategy Officer for EVs, Jun Seki, highlighted the cost-efficiency of this modular approach, allowing companies to create unique models without heavy investments.
Sharp’s entry into the EV market comes amid industry challenges, with growth slowing and automakers adjusting their strategies. Despite these hurdles, Seki expressed optimism about the future of EVs, predicting significant market growth by 2027.
Why It Matters: The collaboration between Foxconn and Sharp represents a significant step in the evolving electric vehicle market. Foxconn, a major supplier for Apple Inc. , has been making strategic moves to diversify its portfolio and enter the EV sector. In May 2022, Foxconn’s chairman, Liu Young-way, expressed confidence in overcoming supply chain challenges and aimed to become the first EV maker not affected by material shortages. This ambition aligns with their broader strategy to compete with established EV manufacturers like Tesla Inc. and Nio Inc. .
Furthermore, Foxconn’s recent approval to invest $246 million in Northern Vietnam for manufacturing EV parts underscores their commitment to this market. The investment will focus on producing EV chargers and components, starting in January 2025. This move is expected to enhance Foxconn’s production capabilities and support its goal of becoming a key player in the EV industry.

Cybertruck lead engineer Wes Morrill on Wednesday took to social media platform X to advise Tesla Inc. supercharger users against using extension cords to charge their EVs on the network.
What Happened: “Would recommend AGAINST using an extension cord on a supercharger (or any DC charging station with a liquid cooled cable),” Morrill wrote on X. Using an extension cord, the senior engineer said, may cause cable overheating and shorting.
The temperature monitoring system within the supercharger allows it to regulate the rate of charging. “With the extension cable that safety goes away. On top of adding an additional junction which generates heat making matters worse,” Morrill said.
Wes@wmorrill3Sep 18, 2024Would recommend AGAINST using an extension cord on a supercharger (or any DC charging station with a liquid cooled cable). Have seen multiple instances of the cable overheated and shorting DC +/-
There's a temperature measurement in the handle and the supercharger derates based...
Why It Matters: In July, Tesla issued a similar cautionary statement against the trending practice of placing wet towels around supercharger connectors to accelerate the charging process.
Placing a wet cloth on supercharger handles does not increase charging speed but instead increases risks of overheating or damage as it interferes with temperature monitors, Tesla said.
"Please refrain from doing this so our systems can run correctly, and true charging issues can be detected by our systems," Tesla wrote via its handle dedicated to charging updates.
Tesla also filed a lawsuit against EVject, a company that makes a “breakaway” charging connector for Tesla EV drivers, alleging that their breakaway connectors are "dangerous" and pose a high safety risk.
The connector has no over-temperature protection and may overheat when charging, Tesla said in the lawsuit, posing risks of burn injuries to users. The high temperature also poses risks of fire to other combustible materials in the charger cable, the EV, or the supercharging infrastructure, Tesla alleged.
