【German Volkswagen Union opposes pay cuts and layoffs threatens a strike of an “unprecedented” scale】The German Metals Union, representing German Volkswagen workers, held a press conference in Wolfsburg, where the Volkswagen headquarters is located, on November 20, local time, to once again clearly oppose the salary cuts, layoffs, and factory closure plans proposed by Volkswagen management. The trade union said that in order to reduce the production costs of enterprises, it can accept reduced working hours to preserve more jobs, and include some of the planned increases in workers' wages and bonuses in a “future fund” to help enterprises cope with risks. The trade union estimates that these measures could help Volkswagen reduce labor costs by 1.5 billion euros. If this plan is not accepted by management, a “large-scale strike never seen before in this country” will be held from December 1.
