【IDC: Global smartphone sales are expected to increase 6.2% this year, but iPhones are only 0.4%】According to market tracking agency IDC, global smartphone shipments are expected to grow 6.2% in 2024 to reach 1.24 billion units. But iPhone sales are likely to increase by only 0.4%. The latest research highlights the uneven recovery of the smartphone market. IDC said most of the growth in 2024 came from depressed demand and regions with low smartphone penetration. More affordable devices from Android manufacturers have helped Chinese brands to better seize this opportunity, but Apple's performance is expected to be better next year. Globally, smartphone shipments have yet to return to pre-pandemic levels, and IDC expects no more than single-digit growth in the next few years. Longer upgrade intervals, market saturation in advanced economies, and rapid growth in second-hand smartphone trade are seen as major factors contributing to the stagnation.
