【Institution: A Softening PPI Does Not Necessarily Mean A Softening CPI, But It Can Happen】 January 14Th, Spectra Markets Analyst Brent Donnelly Stated That A Weak PPI Does Not Always Mean A Weak CPI, Although It Often Does.Recently, It Has Been Somewhat Rare For The US Department Of Labor To Release PPI Data Before CPI Data For A Certain Month, But This Was The Norm Before 2018. Looking Back At The Past 10 Years Of History: When Both Overall PPI And Core PPI Are Lower Than Expected—Just Like The Recently Released December Data—CPI For That Month Is Only Higher Than Expected 21% Of The Time.Donnelly Found That In These Situations, CPI Meets Expectations 39% Of The Time And Falls Below Expectations 39% Of The Time. This Indicates That The December CPI Data Released On Wednesday Is Less Likely To Be Higher Than What Wall Street Expected. Economists Had Been Predicting A 0.3% Increase In Consumer Prices.
