[U.S. Household Debt Reaches $18.04 Trillion in Q4 2024, Driven by Credit Card and Auto Loan Increases] In Q4 2024, U.S. household debt rose 0.5% to $18.04 trillion, according to the New York Fed. Credit card balances increased by $45 billion to $1.21 trillion, mortgage balances grew by $11 billion to $12.61 trillion, and auto loan balances increased by $11 billion to $1.66 trillion. Debt in some form of trouble increased slightly to 3.6%, with a notable uptick in credit card delinquencies and rising serious delinquencies for auto loans and credit cards.
