Investing.com – U.S. stocks were lower after the close on Monday, as losses in the Technology, Consumer Goods and Consumer Services sectors led shares lower.
At the close in NYSE, the Dow Jones Industrial Average lost 2.08% to hit a new 3-months low, while the S&P 500 index declined 2.69%, and the NASDAQ Composite index lost 4.00%.
The best performers of the session on the Dow Jones Industrial Average were Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ), which rose 0.93% or 0.43 points to trade at 46.49 at the close. Meanwhile, 3M Company (NYSE:MMM) added 0.90% or 1.32 points to end at 147.62 and Chevron Corp (NYSE:CVX) was up 0.79% or 1.23 points to 157.57 in late trade.
The worst performers of the session were NVIDIA Corporation (NASDAQ:NVDA), which fell 5.07% or 5.71 points to trade at 106.98 at the close. Goldman Sachs Group Inc (NYSE:GS) declined 5.00% or 28.01 points to end at 531.66 and Apple Inc (NASDAQ:AAPL) was down 4.85% or 11.59 points to 227.48.
The top performers on the S&P 500 were Regeneron Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:REGN) which rose 5.27% to 744.83, The AES Corporation (NYSE:AES) which was up 4.71% to settle at 11.78 and Nextera Energy Inc (NYSE:NEE) which gained 4.57% to close at 76.16.
The worst performers were Tesla Inc (NASDAQ:TSLA) which was down 15.43% to 222.15 in late trade, Microchip Technology Inc (NASDAQ:MCHP) which lost 10.57% to settle at 53.45 and Palantir Technologies Inc (NASDAQ:PLTR) which was down 10.05% to 76.38 at the close.
The top performers on the NASDAQ Composite were Abits Group Inc (NASDAQ:ABTS) which rose 1,383.82% to 3.73, Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) which was up 876.90% to settle at 2.49 and PMGC Holdings Inc (NASDAQ:ELAB) which gained 616.68% to close at 5.16.
The worst performers were China SXT Pharmaceuticals Inc (NASDAQ:SXTC) which was down 39.25% to 2.77 in late trade, Picocela Inc ADR (NASDAQ:PCLA) which lost 36.64% to settle at 0.83 and Coffee Holding Co Inc (NASDAQ:JVA) which was down 31.77% to 6.53 at the close.
Falling stocks outnumbered advancing ones on the New York Stock Exchange by 2242 to 555 and 60 ended unchanged; on the Nasdaq Stock Exchange, 2816 fell and 526 advanced, while 85 ended unchanged.
Shares in Verizon Communications Inc (NYSE:VZ) rose to 52-week highs; gaining 0.93% or 0.43 to 46.49. Shares in Abits Group Inc (NASDAQ:ABTS) rose to all time lows; rising 1,383.82% or 3.48 to 3.73. Shares in Ohmyhome Ltd (NASDAQ:OMH) rose to all time lows; up 876.90% or 2.24 to 2.49. Shares in Picocela Inc ADR (NASDAQ:PCLA) fell to all time lows; down 36.64% or 0.48 to 0.83.
The CBOE Volatility Index, which measures the implied volatility of S&P 500 options, was up 19.21% to 27.86 a new 6-months high.
Gold Futures for April delivery was down 0.75% or 21.96 to $2,892.14 a troy ounce. Elsewhere in commodities trading, Crude oil for delivery in April fell 1.58% or 1.06 to hit $65.98 a barrel, while the May Brent oil contract fell 1.59% or 1.12 to trade at $69.24 a barrel.
EUR/USD was unchanged 0.05% to 1.08, while USD/JPY fell 0.49% to 147.31.
The US Dollar Index Futures was up 0.14% at 103.96.
