Financial stocks rose in Friday's premarket hours as the Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund was 0.3% higher recently.
The Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares was up 0.8% and its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares was 0.7% lower.
Carlyle Group-backed Varo Energy is in discussions to buy Preem's Gothenburg and Lysekil refineries in Sweden, Reuters reported, citing four unnamed industry sources familiar with the plan. Carlyle Group shares were up over 1% pre-bell.
Byline Bancorp shares were over 1% higher after the company said its board approved a new program to repurchase up to about 1.3 million shares, or about 2.8% of its outstanding common stock.
Citigroup has promoted 344 executives across 29 countries to managing director, its highest officer title, multiple media reports said, citing an employee memo. Citigroup shares were up 0.6% premarket.
The broad market exchange-traded fund SPDR S&P 500 ETF Trust was down 0.03% and the actively traded Invesco QQQ Trust advanced 0.04% in Friday's premarket activity, ahead of the eagerly-awaited employment situation report for November.
US stock futures were also mixed, with S&P 500 Index futures down 0.04%, Dow Jones Industrial Average futures slipping 0.1%, and Nasdaq futures gaining 0.1% before the start of regular trading.
November Employment Situation report will be released at 8.30 am ET, followed by the University of Michigan consumer sentiment report at 10 am ET.
The weekly Baker Hughes oil-and-gas rig count is slated to release at 1 pm ET.
Federal Reserve Governor Michelle Bowman speaks at 9:15 am ET, Chicago Fed President Austan Goolsbee at 10:30 am ET, Cleveland Fed President Beth Hammack at 12 pm ET, and San Francisco Fed President Mary Daly at 1 pm ET.
In premarket activity, bitcoin was down by 0.9% and the cryptocurrency fund ProShares Bitcoin Strategy ETF declined by 0.8%.
Power Play:
Technology
Technology Select Sector SPDR Fund retreated 0.1%, and the iShares US Technology ETF was 0.1% higher, while the iShares Expanded Tech Sector ETF was up 0.4%. Among semiconductor ETFs, SPDR S&P Semiconductor ETF was inactive, while the iShares Semiconductor ETF rose by 0.1%.
DocuSign shares were up more than 11% in recent Friday premarket activity after the company late Thursday lifted its revenue outlook for fiscal 2025 and reported better-than-expected fiscal Q3 results.
Winners and Losers:
Consumer
The Consumer Staples Select Sector SPDR Fund and the Vanguard Consumer Staples Fund were flat. The iShares US Consumer Staples ETF was inactive, and the Consumer Discretionary Select Sector SPDR Fund gained 0.3%. The VanEck Retail ETF was inactive, while the SPDR S&P Retail ETF increased by 0.8%.
BRP shares were up more than 7% pre-bell after the company reported higher-than-expected fiscal Q3 normalized earnings and revenue.
Financial
Financial Select Sector SPDR Fund advanced marginally by 0.02%. Direxion Daily Financial Bull 3X Shares was up 0.1%, while its bearish counterpart Direxion Daily Financial Bear 3X Shares was 0.1% higher.

Energy
The iShares US Energy ETF was inactive, while the Energy Select Sector SPDR Fund was down by 0.1%.
Greenfire Resources stock was up 2.7% before Friday's opening bell after the company said its reserves evaluation indicates that its total proved and probable reserves are expected to grow 72% year-over-year with an after-tax net present value of $2.7 billion.
Industrial
Industrial Select Sector SPDR Fund was flat, while the Vanguard Industrials Index Fund and the iShares US Industrials ETF (IYJ) were inactive.
CECO Environmental stock was down 1.4% before the opening bell after the company said that the Hart-Scott-Rodino waiting period for its tender offer for Profire Energy expired on Nov. 15, 2024, meeting a key regulatory condition. Profire stock declined 0.8%.
Health Care
The Health Care Select Sector SPDR Fund advanced 0.2%. The Vanguard Health Care Index Fund declined 0.5% while the iShares US Healthcare ETF was inactive. The iShares Biotechnology ETF was inactive.
AstraZeneca shares were up 1.2% premarket after the company said late Thursday that a pooled analysis of phase 2 and phase 3 trials of datopotamab deruxtecan, or Dato-DXd, showed "clinically meaningful" tumor response in patients with previously treated advanced or metastatic non-small cell lung cancer.
Commodities
Front-month US West Texas Intermediate crude oil fell 0.8% to $67.73 per barrel on the New York Mercantile Exchange. Natural gas was down 2% at $3.02 per 1 million British Thermal Units. United States Oil Fund declined by nearly 1%, while the United States Natural Gas Fund fell by 1.9%.
Gold futures for February advanced 0.5% to $2,661.80 an ounce on the Comex, while silver futures gained 0.5% to reach $31.71 an ounce. SPDR Gold Shares increased by 0.4%, while the iShares Silver Trust was 0.4% lower.
